The equipment in this image is one of the two brand new RF-Dipole crab cavities that will be installed in the Super Proton Synchrotron for testing them. “Crab” cavities will eventually be installed in the High-Luminosity LHC, which will come online in 2027. The new cavities will help significantly increase the peak rate of collisions: by tilting the proton beams, they maximise the overlap between the beams and make the collisions more efficient.
