The Boston Red Sox beat the Chicago Cubs 6-1 on Sunday to avoid a post-All-Star sweep at Wrigley Field. Leadoff hitter and possible trade chip Jarren Duran went 0-for-3 at the plate during the game, but was clearly willing to leave it all on the field to get the win.
Boston had chances all night long, at least one baserunner in nine of 10 innings, but their clutch factor was M.I.A. and in the bottom of the 10th, it was the Phillies who triumphed, albeit in one of the most bizarre endings baseball has seen in a long time: A walk-off on bases-loaded catcher’s interference, determined on a replay review.
The Boston Red Sox have turned their season around and have put themselves in a position to be buyers at next week's trade deadline. Unlike many buyers, they have an All-Star on their roster they can trade.
