Mavericks, Duke Blue Devils and Flagg

NBA's Las Vegas Summer League is almost in the books. The nearly two-week event has showcased some of the top rookies from the 2025 draft class, second-year players and NBA hopefu
"He is a top-five talent and player all-time at Duke, likely top-two," said a player who helped the Blue Devils win the 2010 national championship. "All-time starting five? I would probably say Flagg is the sixth man [because he lacks the team achievements]. If I had to pick a top five, however, it would be hard to keep him out."
The Duke Blue Devils went on a great run during the 2024-25 college basketball season. Led by Cooper Flagg, the storied program made it all the way to the Final Four before being eliminated by the Houston Cougars.
Before these stars transitioned to college basketball and the NBA, they made a case for themselves at the Nike Peach Jam.
Now, after averaging 20.5 points across two impressive Summer League games, Flagg is set to join a veteran-laden Mavericks roster that features Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, D’Angelo Russell, and, once healthy, fellow Duke alum Kyrie Irving.
Great college basketball teams often see their dreams denied in the volatile environment that is March Madness.
To add to the accolades, Flagg won ESPN’s ESPY award for the 2025 Best Male College Athlete on Wednesday afternoon. 🏀 @DukeMBB ➡️ @dallasmavs @Cooper_Flagg takes home the @ESPYS Best College Athlete - Men's Sports award! 🏆 @MarchMadnessMBB x @MFinalFour pic.twitter.com/7jYKl1r0BK
Because of the success of Cooper Flagg, it's been a popular approach in the past few months to put together an all-time Duke Blue Devils men's basketball roster. ESPN's Myron Medcalf took the latest shot at it, and it's certainly quite the dream team.
"It took a couple months to really understand, process, feel it, live it — and feel the pain," the coach said of Duke's Final Four loss.
