The NFL world learned about veteran superstar safety Tyrann Mathieu's retirement on Tuesday, but the Saints have known for a little bit longer, according to general manager Mickey Loomis. Blackmon and the Saints have been in contact since, and New Orleans was quickly able to find their next safety to play next to Justin Reid.

New Orleans Saints and NFL legendary safety Tyrann Mathieu has announced his retirement ahead of the 2025 season.

Mathieu went on to joke that his five-year-old daughter was upset at him for retiring because she was going to miss getting "dressed up" for his game days. Mathieu and his girlfriend share three kids: 12-year-old and 11-year-old sons, Noah and Tyrann Jr., and a five-year-old daughter, Mila.
