Dharma Productions, led by Karan Johar, has decided to halt pre-release screenings of their films, citing the need to adapt and maintain the excitement of the cinematic experience. However, they will still host press screenings on the release day to ensure timely reviews.

With the box office volatility and rising star fees, it is tougher for production house like Dharma to operate independently. Recently, Dharma has released Kill, Bad Newz, Yodha and Mr & Mrs Mahi. Its Alia Bhatt-starrer Jigra will arrive in cinemas this week.

While e4m had reported earlier that Dharma has been seeking investors for some time, it is believed that the RP Sanjiv Goenka Group may ultimately acquire a major stake in the company

Saregama recently acquired a majority stake in digital entertainment firm Pocket Aces Pictures, aims to enhance its content offerings and expand its film catalog.

Johar expressed concern over skyrocketing actor fees, revealing that some stars had asked for Rs 40 crore to appear in Kill, which equaled the film's entire budget.

The music company, which has been trying to make a mark in the movie and OTT space, has already acquired Pocket Aces Pictures and is aiming to boost its content catalogue, the newspaper said
