The ongoing workers strike against waste collection company Republic Services has affected trash pickup in at least 14 Greater Boston communities.

The City of Boston will start issuing code enforcement fines directly to Republic Services for garbage left uncollected amid the ongoing trash collection worker strike, Mayor Michelle Wu said in a letter on Wednesday.

Wu and the city's Office of Arts and Culture announced 25 free cultural events coming to City Hall Plaza this summer and fall.
