WASHINGTON, DC- The United States has identified its response to China’s rise as “the defining story of the 21st century” and has signaled a deeper, but conditional, economic partnership with India as part of a broader Indo-Pacific strategy.
The US Congress has time and again asked Trump to mend ties with India to keep China in check. On Wednesday, former US diplomat Lindsey Ford echoed the same concern.
India is using technology as a tool of foreign policy, casting itself as a moral voice for smaller, developing countries.
At the same time, experts stressed that India sees the United States as central to balancing China. Lindsey Ford of the Centre for a New American Security said, “Neither India nor the United States can balance China alone”. She urged Congress to accelerate defense and technology cooperation to reinforce deterrence.
The United States views India as a crucial alternative to China for global supply chains, US Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer said, highlighting the country’s manufacturing capacity and workforce as key advantages.
