WEBAug 1, 2016 · 2. "Toon" for your game characters absolutely started in The Realm Online. It was one of the earliest graphical MMORPGs out, the characters actually looked like cartoons and people there called them "toons" because of that. Sadly it carried on to other games out of habit.
